PAT Testing (Portable Appliance Testing)
What is a Portable Appliance?

A portable appliance is anything that can be connected and disconnected from the mains electricity without tools - i.e. anything with a mains plug. We test any 110V, 230V and 415V equipment.
Portable appliance testing which is usually referred to as PAT Testing is a process by which electrical appliances in an organisation are inspected and tested to see if they are safe.

Why PAT Test?
  • To comply with the Electricity at Work Regulations
  • To comply with the Health & Safety requirements
  • As part of your Fire Risk Assessment compliance
  • To comply with your Insurance requirements

Having your appliances PAT tested is the best way to ensure safety for you, your staff, your tenants and/or your customers. If an electrical accident were to occur then you may be at risk of having to pay a fine or even imprisonment; having the equipment inspected will spot any potential dangers in the appliances.
The Government stresses the need for PAT testing in the new 'Fire Safety Risk Assessment - Offices and Shops' which states among other references to electrics:

'If portable electrical equipment is used, including items brought into a workplace by staff, then your fire risk assessment should ensure that it is visually inspected and undergoes portable appliance testing ('PAT') at intervals suitable for the type of equipment and its frequency of use (refer to HSE guidance).'

What is included in our PAT testing?

All Pat testing is carried out in accordance with the Institute of Electrical Engineers (IEE) code of practice using up-to-date software and equipment to ensure accuracy. All Engineers are trained to a minimum of City & Guilds 2377.
You will be given a comprehensive report of all details of every appliance tested. Furthermore, you don't even have to keep track of when the next inspection is due as we will contact you to remind you.
We keep a confidential copy of all reports for 5 years.

We also carry out on-site minor repairs such as new plugs, new fuse, or rewiring of plugs which are free of charge in most cases.

If you would like to arrange for PAT testing, call us on 01743 352204 or fill out our online form on our contact page
